Venedig

A day trip to Venice is worth a trip. From the Hotel Rotwand near Bolzano, take the A22 motorway and then the A4 towards Venice. The journey takes about 2.5 hours and is comfortable, everything on the motorway. There is also a beautiful state road that is recommended for motorcyclists.

Lake Garda

Lake Garda is one of the most important destinations for travelers to South Tyrol. From the Hotel Rotwand you can easily get to Lake Garda in just 1-1.5 hours using the A22 motorway at the Bolzano South entrance.

Verona

Verona can be reached via the A22 motorway, which is only 4 km away from the Hotel Rotwand. In 1.5 hours you can comfortably arrive in Verona.

Mild climate, wonderful city center and full of culture. Verona has a very nice medieval center with the Arena di Verona. The culture of enjoyment and the Italian “aperitivo” are also very important in the city of Romeo and Juliet.

Trento

The capital of the province of Trento is also worth a visit. 116,000 inhabitants. The A22 motorway makes it easy to get to Trento from the Bozen Süd entrance.

The city lies in a cauldron which brings relatively mild temperatures all year round. Surrounded by the mountains Monte Bondone, Paganella and Monte Calisio. The city of Trento is rich in museums and cultural sights.

Bressanone

You can get to Brixen with the A22 motorway. Bozen Süd entrance and exit at Brixen Süd again. Then towards the center. The third largest city in South Tyrol has approximately 21,000 inhabitants. Brixen is the episcopal city of South Tyrol.

Beautiful Bressanone cathedral and historical center. Surrounded by high mountains and castles. Also worth a trip is the newly built Aquarena, which offers water games and fun for everyone. Very modern sauna area, renovated in 2013 and enlarged with a panoramic view.

Merano

The city of Merano can be easily reached from the Hotel Rotwand via the “Mebo” expressway. Enter Bolzano South and exit Merano South. Continue towards the center to the thermal park. The second largest city in South Tyrol has around 38,000 inhabitants and is very rich in tourism. Especially spa guests, as well as hikers and bikers will find everything their hearts desire.

Merano also has a lot to offer in culinary terms, not least thanks to the Merano Wine Festival which takes place every year in November directly on the spa promenade. The best-known and best producers introduce themselves and their wines, spirits and olive oils. The city of Merano is also very well represented with very good restaurants and wine bars.

Bolzano

It is very easy to get to the provincial capital of Bozen from the Hotel Rotwand. By car down to the roundabout and first exit towards Bolzano center. 4km to the industrial zone with the Bolzano exhibition center and 6km to the center. The state capital is one of the larger urban centers in the Alpine arch and is considered an important meeting place for Austrian-German and Italian culture and economy due to its biculturalism.

The culturally and historically very important center is particularly interesting for tourists. It offers interesting buildings, alleys, museums and last but not least restaurants and bars such as coffee houses. You can discover the latest fashion trends in small shops under the arbors. The city was named Alpine City of the Year 2009.

Alpe di Siusi

To get to the Alpe di Siusi, drive from the Hotel Rotwand through Bolzano and then into the valley towards Fiè. At Völs, a cable car goes to the Alpe di Siusi. If you want to go directly to the mountain pasture by car, you have to do it before 8:30 in the morning. The street closes later. The Alpe di Siusi is one of the largest and most beautiful alpine pastures in Europe and always overwhelming with its panoramic landscape. Great hiking trails and refreshments. Ideal for athletes or just to enjoy the dolce vita of the Dolomites.

In winter, the Alpe di Siusi offers an extensive winter sports program with skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. With over 60km of ski slopes, the Seiser Alm is one of the largest ski areas in South Tyrol. In 2008 a church was built on the mountain pasture in the Compatsch area, which was dedicated to St. Francis in 2009. It is of special cultural and architectural beauty and importance.

Mountains of the Dolomites

Lake of Caldaro

From the Hotel Rotwand you can get to Bolzano Süd, the “Mebo” entrance and the Eppan exit, into the wine route to Kaltern and Lake Kaltern. The other variant is from the Hotel Rotwand in the direction of Trient State Road to Auer, from there into the South Tyrolean Wine Road to Lake Kaltern. Lake Kaltern is one of the largest and warmest lakes in South Tyrol. the water temperature is 28 degrees in summer, the bathing season is from May to the end of September.

The Kalterer See Triathlon has been held here every year in May since 1989. In this competition, the participating athletes have to complete 1.5km swimming, 40km cycling and 10km running. The lake is surrounded by countless vineyards that extend into the steep slopes of Graun and Girlan. The famous “Kalterer See Auslese” is produced there.
