The thermal baths of Merano

The very modern complex in Merano offers to all tourist over 7.650 m² of thermal baths, 25 swimming pools, 8 saunas and Turkish baths, a well – equipped Fitness-Center, a Vital Spa and a comfortable Bistrot, where you can enjoy yourself with a drink or a tasty meal. The complex is surrounded by a 50.000 m² park and is opened all year.
Traditional Haflinger horseracing
The traditional Haflinger horseracings take place every year on Easter Monday in Merano. These popular horses are named after Avelengo, a little mountain village over Merano. This traditional event starts in the morning, where the horses, accompanied by music bands, parade until they reach the city center of Merano.
The racings start in the afternoon. South Tyrolean music bands, dance groups performances, traditional shows of the “Goaßlschnellern” (the whip cracker) as well as Harness racings and typical South Tyrolean specialities make this event even more interesting.
Christmas markets
The first “Christmas market of Bolzano” dates back to 1990; in 2005, with it’s 1,2 million tourists, it was the most visited Christmas market in South Tyrol and in Italy. Excite your Christmas spirit with a nice walk in the center of Bolzano with its charming shops, taste a delicious Zelten (South Tyrolean Christmas cake), while you listen to some sweet Christmas melodies.
In addition to the Christmas cakes and regional specialities, the various stall offer also little figures made with chocolate, toasted almonds, roasted chestnuts and hot dishes. To heat up the atmosphere, you can choose between different hot drinks, like vin brulè (hot wine), apple punsch or hot chocolate, all served in the traditional “Chrtistmas market’s tea cups“.
Surrounded by the enchanting environment of the Christmas market, you could also find some nice gift ideas for your friends and relatives. Decorations for the Christmas tree as glass balls, Advent stars and hand made goods are just some of the proposed items.
